Wence, who graduated from the University of Zimbabwe in 1989 with a BSc (Hons) Mining Engineering, has 21 years of postgraduate experience in the mining industry that covers mining production, planning, projects, organisational development and executive management.

After completing his studies, he joined Anglo American Corporation and over the years has worked in various positions within the Zimbabwean mining industry. His most recent position before joining Atlas Copco was as the General Manager for Zimasco North and Middle Dyke Division.

“I enjoy contributing to the mining and minerals profession and I am currently a member of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) and I am proud to be the Chairman of the Zimbabwean branch” comments Wence.

Wence is the past president of the Association of Mine Managers of Zimbabwe (AMMZ), past chairman of the SHE Committee of the Chamber of Mines as well as the past president of the Mine Rescue Association of Zimbabwe. He is furthermore extensively involved in other Zimbabwean mining regulatory bodies.
 
He also holds a Zimbabwe Government Mine Manager‘s Certificate of Competency, a Certificate in Advanced International Training in Mining Technology from Lulea University of Technology, Sweden, and an MBA from Durham University, UK.
